Beech logs are logs of beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) that have been felled but not yet processed into sawn timber or other wood products. These logs are rough logs, usually delimbed and debarked, intended for sawing, cutting or for various purposes.
Colour: Beech wood is generally light in colour, beige to pink, which can darken slightly when air-dried or heat-treated.
Density: Beech is a hardwood with a relatively high density (approx. 700 to 900 kg/m³). This makes it robust and resistant, while at the same time easy to work.
Grain: Beech wood has a fine and uniform grain that gives it an elegant appearance when worked.
Resistance: It is a wood that resists mechanical wear well, but is more susceptible to moisture and fungal attack. It is therefore mainly used indoors, unless it has been treated for outdoor use.
Advantages of beech:
Ease of processing: Although dense, beech is easy to work with and can be easily sanded, planed or turned.
Aesthetic appearance: Its fine grain and light color are appreciated for elegant finishes.
Good availability: Beech is a fairly common wood in Europe, especially in France, and is therefore relatively easy to obtain.
